Favorite Memory as a PT Student
I love Mount Union and the DPT program because of how they put their students first! They truly care about each student and it shows. There are too many great memories to pick from - our DPT open houses, Holiday parties, or meeting up at Buffalo Wild Wings with professors after finals. I was part of Mount Union's Physical Therapy Admissions Committee, Interview Board, and Advisory Board. I was also a tutor and peer mentor. These roles allowed me to improve my communication skills and learn how to work in an interdisciplinary team. We also had 3 clinical rotations during the DPT program which allowed me to build my skills as a clinician and apply what I've learned in PT school.
Career as a Physical Therapist
I work as a physical therapist in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. I evaluate and treat various neurological patients and help improve their overall functional mobility. I recently became a board certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist - after studying for the board exam and completing a year long residency program. I am also an adjunct professor where I help teach students in their neurological curriculum for PT school. Throughout my career as a PT, I'd like to open my own outpatient Neurologic PT clinic! I love treating the neurologic population and would love to have my own space to help those in need. I would also love to continue to teach more and eventually earn my PhD. Mount Union is where I found my love for teaching. When I am older, I would love to be a full time professor in a DPT program.
Why UMU Doctor of Physical Therapy Program?
I fell in love with Mount Union on my interview day. I loved the campus and the DPT program. The professors truly made you feel welcomed and they treated you with the upmost respect. The professors were knowledgeable and flexible, and always willing to try new things. I felt they truly appreciated me for me, and didn't just see me as a number. I still am in contact with my professors from the program and visit when I am able! I also stay connected with the current classes by being part of alumni panels regarding board prep, residencies or specializations.
